What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I’ve been with Rimrock for 3 months. I think the most enjoyable part of the job is helping identify solutions to make our clients jobs easier.

What is your favorite place that you have visited and where is your next dream vacation spot?

Port Antonio Jamaica. The food, the culture and the vibe of the people is contagious.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Professional Fisherman like Bob Izumi. Being paid to travel to fish is kind of amazing!

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

Tough choice, but it would be Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.  Of course, the resemblance is almost uncanny!

What TV shows/music/apps/Podcasts are you currently obsessed with right now?

I really got into the show “A Million Little Things” this year. I am also a big fan of The Walking Dead.

If you could have a drink with anyone (fictional, alive, dead, famous, non-famous) who would it be and why?

I would love to have a drink with LeBron James.  He is an athlete who has been in the spotlight since he was 18 years old, and is always being compared to basketball greats, Jordan and Kobe. I would love to hear about how he deals with juggling the demands of being a high-profile athlete, his family, reputation and legacy.  All in his own words- unplugged.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself or your “secret talent” that your colleagues might not already know.

A few years ago, when I worked for Toronto FC, I had to stand in for a player who was injured and back home in France for the annual team picture.  One of the other players asked if I was a new player and why the team would sign someone so fat ☹

Any pet peeves?

Slow drivers in the passing lane, people who do not shovel or salt their sidewalks, and people that place large food/drink orders in the drive-through.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?
I’ve been here since June, so about nine months. I love the balance between office and working remotely. It’s just right.

What is your favorite place that you have visited and where is your next dream vacation spot?
Palau is my favorite, and Iceland is high on the list for the next vacation spot.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I would be an astronaut taking a trip to the moon.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Jason Statham

If you could have a drink with anyone (fictional, alive, dead, famous, non-famous) who would it be and why?
Joe Rogan would make for interesting conversation.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself or your “secret talent” that your colleagues might not already know.
I am writing a book, if I ever find the time.

Any pet peeves?
Stubbornness.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I have been with Rimrock for about 4 years in the testing role. What I like most about my job is pointing out the errors in the program done by others (hey, it’s part of the job).

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I stay away from the computer as much as possible. I like reading, taking care of my dog, and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What TV shows/music/apps/Podcasts are you currently obsessed with right now?

My favorite TV shows are Big Bang Theory, Survivor, and Brooklyn 99.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself or your “secret talent” that your colleagues might not already know.

I am a member of IPMS Toronto (International Plastic Modelers Society) and AMPS (Armor Military Preservation Society).  These groups mainly assemble scale models and help restore recovered military equipment from the past.  I also enter my completed build projects in competitions and have won several 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in show categories.  The next show we are doing is March 24th at the Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton.  We usually get about 700 entries amid the backdrop of WWII and modern jets in the Museums hanger. Next time you see me, ask me what I am working on and I will likely have a picture of it.

Employee Spotlight: Jacqueline Park

The Rimrock Corporation team is made up of many hard working, talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

This month we shine the light on Jacqueline Park, our Director of Consulting.  Jacqui was born and raised in Sarnia, and went to university in London, Ontario. Before moving to Toronto, she lived in Burlington for 10 years. Jacqui now lives in Toronto, and loves it!

Prior to working at Rimrock, Jacqui worked in various IT roles- as a programmer, developer, systems administrator, project manager and business analyst. She also did some independent contracting work.

In her spare time, Jacqui loves hitting the gym. A self-proclaimed gym rat, Jacqui spends a lot of free time running, swimming, cycling, and doing crossfit. She even manages to do a few triathlons in the summer. She’s also been teaching yoga for over 10 years and still teaches weekly. She practices most days along with breathwork and meditation every morning – which she credits for keeping herself grounded and focused.

Read on to find out more about Jacqui.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I have been here for about 6 weeks now – I am learning so much from everyone! I am so grateful and inspired to be working with such a talented group of people. I am quite comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment and I really appreciate the inclusive culture and work life balance that we have here.

What is your favorite place that you have visited and where is your next dream vacation spot?

I don’t have a favourite. Every place I have visited holds a special memory for me. My most recent trip was to India. I travelled there last fall for the first time; any concerns and fears that I had completely vanished once I arrived in Rishikesh. The people, food, culture, markets, temples – and all the bright colours – it was magic! I would go back in a heartbeat. My next big trip will be Vietnam and Cambodia or Bali.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I would love to be a sound engineer at a massive music festival or rock concert.

What TV shows/music/apps/Podcasts are you currently obsessed with right now?

I’m a huge music/concert junkie – I go to shows every week. Lately I’ve gotten into Rainbow Kitten Surprise and really excited that I was able to get tickets to an upcoming show in TO. My absolute favourite band is Alt-J. I drove to Cleveland last summer to see them – great road trip!

If you could have a drink with anyone (fictional, alive, dead, famous, non-famous) who would it be and why?

Buddha – but I don’t think he drinks…maybe a tea?

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself or your “secret talent” that your colleagues might not already know.

Some of you may know this already but I dedicated many years of my life to boxing – both amateur and pro. In 2008 I was ranked top 5 in the world in my weight class. I got to travel and compete all over the world with Team Canada as an amateur and I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything else.

It’s just been over a month now and I am loving it here! Wonderful team to work with. I love the work life balance that Rimrock offers.

What is your favorite place that you have visited and where is your next dream vacation spot?
We had some friends in Leominster (South Wales, UK) and I loved visiting them. They had a lovely 18th century cottage at the bottom of the hills. It was always refreshing to take a break from fast paced city life and rediscover my own self.

Dream vacation spot is Bali!

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

A Fire Fighter.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

I would like to cast myself as ME 😊

What TV shows/music/apps/Podcasts are you currently obsessed with right now?
None! I hardly get any time for these with two little young ones.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself or your “secret talent” that your colleagues might not already know.

I am a good cook! (I think…..lol)

Employee Spotlight: Olga Kochsheyeva

The Rimrock Corporation team is made up of many hard working talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

Olga Kochsheyeva is an Account Manager for the ERP team. She is originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan and moved to Toronto in June 2001. Prior to working for Rimrock, Olga worked for a Swiss watch company.

When Olga isn’t working she enjoys hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking. She also enjoys running and has completed a one half-marathon, as well as numerous organized 10k runs.

Read on to find out more about Olga.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I have been here 8 weeks as of today 😊. I really enjoy the environment and feel of a smaller business. It definitely feels more personable.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Iceland was by far my most favorite. My husband and I rented a car and drove around the entire Island just stopping wherever we wanted. We did a hike every single day. It was an experience I will never forget. My next dream vacation would be to Alaska or Tibet.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself that your colleagues might not already know.

I love dancing. I spent quite a few years taking Salsa lessons and performing in a few places around Canada and even Puerto Rico.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That’s an easy one – Sushi, hands down.

What TV shows/music/apps are you currently obsessed with right now?

I know this is nothing current, but I just finished re-watching “How I met your mother”. I love that show.

Employee Spotlight: Brian Colbert

The Rimrock Corporation team is made up of many hard working talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

This month we shine the light on Brian Colbert, our rock star summer intern, who has impressed all of us over the past few weeks! He is working as a Business Analyst for both the ERP and FIELDBOSS teams.

Brian grew up in Vancouver BC, but moved to the East Coast in September 2017 to start the Commerce Program at Queen’s University.

When Brian isn’t working at the office, you can find him playing basketball, exploring photography, and reading.

Read on to find out more about Brain.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I enjoy the interesting work I’m doing here. Hearing from my friends’ experiences, many first-year internships consist of completing mostly repetitive administrative tasks, and although there’s nothing wrong with that, every project I’ve worked on at Rimrock has forced me to think deeply and pick up skills that I would not have had the opportunity to do elsewhere.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I like that I’m getting exposed to many facets of business and getting to work on a diverse range of tasks that range from very high-level and strategic to day-to-day and operational. In addition, as my job title suggests, much of my role is analytical in nature which plays well to my innate strengths and preferences.

What is the number one challenge you face in your role?

As Rimrock operates in a niche industry, it took me some effort to get acquainted to the market – especially understanding the types of clients we have and picking up the technical jargon used in communication.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

I love Havana. The Communist government governing Cuba has essentially blocked all progress since the late 1960s, and as a result I got such a unique vibe from the city during my visit – almost as if it’s frozen in time. The beautiful architecture, vibrant culture, and pleasant climate only added to the experience.

If you could have a drink with anyone (fictional, alive, dead, famous, non-famous) who would it be and why?

I’m still 18 for two days, so no alcohol for me until then! I would love to meet Elon Musk though and pick the brain of someone who is consistently able to come up with moonshot ideas that benefit humanity and actually bring them to life.

Employee Spotlight: Josee Labrecque

The Rimrock Corporation team is made up of many hard working talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

Josee Labrecque is a Project Manager for the ERP team. She is originally from La Belle Province – Quebec and relocated to Toronto in January 2017. Prior to working for Rimrock, Josee worked mostly in the manufacturing sector, varying from administration, accounting, and logistics. She had the chance to manage various internal projects, which led her to a career in Project Management.

When Josee isn’t working you can find her playing board games (she even refers to herself as a “Board Gamer”), hiking, kayaking, and cycling. She recently purchased a set of rollerblades so you may even find her rollerblading down the beachfront this summer!

Read on to find out more about Josee.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I’ve only been here a few months so still in the learning/adapting phase. I have always loved the smaller entrepreneur style companies, I find they are more personable, and you definitely get that here.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

The diversity – I became a project manager mostly for the diversity of the role. There are so many aspects of PM life, so many hats, that you get to tap into various skill sets, whether it be accounting, scheduling, human resource, problem solving… the list goes on – I love it!

What is the number one challenge you face in your role?

Changes! Every project manager’s pet peeve, lol. We work so hard on planning and ensuring that everything goes smoothly and according to schedule. The slightest change can throw a wrench in the wheels so to speak, but you have to learn to roll with the punches and be adaptive.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

One of the first trips I took with my husband was a Paris/Italy trip. Absolutely loved it! The culture and history of Paris was amazing, but our side trip to Italy was breathtaking. We went to a little area called Cinque Terre – 5 small villages along the coast. No cars, all walking. The food, the wine, the people, the scenery, everything was an experience never to forget.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself that your colleagues might not already know.

Halloween freak here! Love Halloween! Where everyone typically has a Christmas village, I have a Halloween one, lol.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ah, the Quebecoise in me kicks in here – Poutine, without a doubt, lol. It has to be from Quebec though, even though it is more and more popular and available here, it is just not the same as the original from Quebec.

What TV shows/music/apps are you currently obsessed with right now?

Anything that’s cooking reality TV. I have been watching old episodes of Top Chef Masters lately. It always amazes me what they can do with so few ingredients, in so little time, in out of the ordinary environments.

Employee Spotlight: David Alberto

The Rimrock Corporation team is made up of many hard working talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

David Alberto is an Application Consultant for the FIELDBOSS team. David was born in Antigua but was raised in the British Virgin Islands, specifically the island of Tortola. He moved to Toronto in 2007. Prior to working at Rimrock, David worked as an application consultant for another Microsoft Partner in the Toronto area.

When David isn’t busy implementing new projects, you can find him playing basketball and hitting up the gym.

Read on to find out more about David.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?

I’ve been working at Rimrock for just over 2 months. What I love the most about working here is the sense of teamwork. Even though a single consultant may own a project, there is still a lot of collaboration among the FIELDBOSS team and consultants.

Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?

I went to Colombia in December of 2016 to meet my wife’s family and to experience the culture where she grew up. Most people go to Colombia for the beaches of Cartagena (which are very nice). But the best thing I experienced in Colombia was the joy of the people. As everyone knows, the country has more than its fare share of issues, but for most people in Colombia there is nowhere they would rather be.

What TV shows/music/apps are you currently obsessed with right now?

I recently finished watching the first season of a Spanish Netflix series called La Casa de Papel (recently renamed to Money Heist). It’s an amazing show depicting an elaborate robbery of the Royal Mint of Spain.

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself that your colleagues might not already know.

Working in tech was not my first choice coming out of high school. Playing jazz music was my passion and I was accepted into Humber College’s very competitive music program. I used to play in a jazz big band based out of Etobicoke. I doubled on alto saxophone and clarinet.

Employee Spotlight: Ola Darwish

The Rimrock team is made up of many hard working talented individuals with interesting stories to tell. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll meet some of these people, learn what they do, and how they keep Rimrock exciting and fun.

This week we shine the spotlight on Ola, a Senior GP Consultant for our ERP team. She was born in Cairo, Egypt and moved to Canada near the end of 2009.

Ola has been working in ERP consulting ever since she graduated University. Prior to working at Rimrock, Ola worked for CCIM (Community Care Information Management). She worked on projects led by the Ministry of Health; implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP in all Ontario health organizations. She also worked for another company where she got to implement GP in Sweden, Germany, Ireland, and the UK.

Ola spends her spare time learning Spanish, swimming, and loves staying active. She enjoys watching “Hell’s Kitchen” and absolutely loves Chef Gordon Ramsey!

Read on to find out more about Ola.

What do you love most about working at Rimrock & how long have you been here?
I have been at Rimrock since August of 2015. I think we have a great working environment and culture. I love the team I work with! Everyone is very cooperative, nice, and helpful.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I have two favorite places:
Paris, France has an unexplainable charm and it is very romantic. I love it!

I would also have to say Banff, Alberta. It is paradise on earth! The scenery is fantastic. Every turn you take is breath taking!

Tell us a “fun fact” about yourself that your colleagues might not already know.
Well, I think a surprising fact is that I have never watched Game of Thrones. I know, I know.

I also never watch scary movies, not even the trailer, because they scare me to death. I think it’s probably because I believe in ghosts!

What TV shows/music/apps are you currently obsessed with right now?
I really enjoy watching Forensic Files, Untold Stories of the ER, and a few sitcoms.

Words to live by — What are yours?
Wow, we’re getting deep here! I really just believe that if you want to accomplish something you can do it as long as you work hard, keep trying, and never give up.
