Hollywood is taking a vacay in the 6ix! The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has officially begun and a number of A-list celebrities have landed in Toronto for the annual film festival. While movies and swanky parties may be the real highlight of the festival, Torontonians can be found clumped together outside theatres, hotels, and fancy restaurants hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities.
TIFF is one of the only large film festivals that takes place in the middle of a major metropolitan city. In order to avoid chaotic traffic and clusters of pedestrians overflowing the sidewalks, the City of Toronto shuts down King Street West to traffic and turns it into Festival Street. The pedestrian-only street draws the festival-curious and festival-loving alike and is filled with installations, performances, food trucks, screenings and much more.
TIFF is a very exciting time for most people in the city. Love it or hate it, it’s a lot more fun and energizing than riding the slothful, rerouted 504 TTC streetcar home for 90 minutes with other irritated commuters squished up against you.
