Have you ever felt like your company’s data is not being used to its full potential? Many contractors face this challenge due to the multiple systems they use to store their data. In today’s digital age, data is invaluable, but it’s only useful if you can gain insights and meaning from it.
That’s where the Microsoft Power Platform comes in. The Microsoft Power Platform is a robust collection of applications that our engineering department used as the framework for our FIELDBOSS application. It empowers FIELDBOSS customers to automate processes and harness the power of their data. From small contractors to large enterprises, companies use Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Pages to manage and optimize their operations.
- Microsoft Power BI is the reporting and analytics tool.
- Microsoft Power Apps is an application development tool that emphasizes creating apps with low or no code.
- Microsoft Power Automate (formerly known as Flow) is the tool for business process automation.
- Power Pages is the tool used to create customer portals.
Power BI – Microsoft Power BI is a cloud-based business intelligence tool that allows users to connect to various data sources (including cloud-based and on-premises databases, Excel spreadsheets, and even social media platforms), analyze and visualize data, and share insights with colleagues in real-time. It is a powerful and versatile tool that can be used by businesses of all sizes to gain insights into their operations, customers, and competitors and to make informed decisions.
One of the main benefits of using Microsoft Power BI is its ease of use. The intuitive user interface and drag-and-drop functionality make it easy for non-technical users to create insightful reports and dashboards without the need for extensive training. Additionally, Power BI is highly customizable, allowing users to create personalized visualizations that are tailored to their specific needs.
Power BI also includes powerful data analysis tools, such as forecasting, clustering, and anomaly detection, which can help contractors identify patterns and trends in their data that may not be immediately apparent.
Power Apps – Power Apps is an application development tool that emphasizes creating apps with low or no code. One of the key benefits of Power Apps is its ability to allow businesses to create custom applications that can streamline workflows, automate manual processes, and improve data accuracy. For example, a field service business could create an application to manage work orders and technician schedules, allowing them to track progress and ensure that projects are completed on time.
Microsoft Power Apps was used by Microsoft to build the underlying Sales, Service and Accounting Apps that we used as our FIELDBOSS framework. One key advantage of the Power Platform is that security is built into Power Apps and the entire Power Platform. The security is controlled through the Microsoft Azure Active Directory that manages security for your organization. Power Apps platform tools allow you to enable policies such as multifactor authentication, full audit logs, data loss prevention, and policies to centrally manage your apps across and outside of your organization.
Power Automate – Formerly known as Microsoft Flow, Power Automate is a tool that empowers users to automate business processes, eliminating manual tasks and associated errors. By connecting different systems, Power Automate can translate data into a unified and useful format, ensuring accuracy across various Microsoft applications. With Power Automate, you can automate and build business processes across all FIELDBOSS apps, ranging from simple automations such as an invoice export to QuickBooks or to very advanced workflows that have different branches, trigger responses, and trigger actions such as advanced maintenance billing automation. You can even create a flow that triggers an alert when a work order is assigned to a technician, ensuring that the technician is aware of the task and can respond promptly.
Power Automate can also be used to create approval workflows, allowing contractors to streamline processes such as invoice approvals or project proposals. This can help save time and reduce delays, ensuring that critical tasks are completed on time.
Power Pages – Microsoft Power Pages is the evolution of Power Apps Portals and is the newest member of the Microsoft Power Platform family. Power Pages empowers anyone to build data-powered, modern, and secure business websites without any developer experience.
In today’s fast-paced world of digitization and self-service, contractors who offer secure customer portals and enable client access to specific views of Jobs, Service Tickets, Completed Maintenance Checklists and Invoices stay put themselves ahead of the competition. Offering customer transparency, while still protecting the contractor, Power Pages customer portals helps create superior customer experiences that will build trust, elevate your reputation, differentiate your service offerings, and reduce service delivery costs.
With Microsoft Power Pages, portal solutions can be built in a few days, as opposed to the weeks and months traditionally required. Business can create responsive and attractive appearances that match company branding, similar to a website.
